Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disorder that disrupts communication between the brain and body by damaging the protective cover around nerve fibres in the brain and spinal cord, known as the myelin sheath.
Symptoms vary, but commonly include muscle weakness, numbness or tingling, fatigue, vision and balance problems, and issues with memory or concentration. Currently, disease-modifying therapies, symptom management drugs, physical therapy, and lifestyle interventions are the primary treatments to slow progression and improve quality of life. There is no cure.
