Keyword: fMRI
fMRI - functional magnetic resonance imaging or functional MRI (fMRI) measures changes in blood oxygen levels as a surrogate for neuronal activity. Since cerebral blood flow and neuronal activation are coupled, we can use the relative changes in blood oxygenation to a region of the brain as demonstration that this brain region is in use and communicating. Functional MRI enables us to indirectly image and measure brain activity.
